Service Orientated Architecture - Design and Implementation assistance
This project has been on going for nearly a year. A large govenerment department has begun the process of restructuring their environment so that components can be reused and "virutal" systems created rapidly by combining systems in a manner similar to how you would combine components within a single application.
Most enterprises have vast opportunities for reuse of their systems as they demand more things from their IT. But there are big pitfalls and Gotchas for the unwary.
This particular government department have wonderfully talented IT staff but were smart enough to recognise it was cheaper and more successful not to let them stumble over the obstacles as they learnt but get some architectural guidance in design.

Business to Business (B2B) Gateway - Design and assist with implementation
One of many B2B designs Babelfish has been asked to do this past year. Microsoft Biztalk Server has made integration so cost effective that it has been a very popular choice.
Many integrations have been done into large ERP systems such as SAP or JDE. But also integrations into smaller, sometimes home gown systems based on SQL Server

Custom Application Design - Development or Correction
A number of developments have been undertaken recently. Marketing engine applications, order tracking applications, Dispatch systems.
Most have been new or extensions of existing systems, but a few unfortunately have been costly fixes of systems that were never designed to be maintainable and had started to fail the purpose for which they were built before they had paid for themselves.
Software MUST always have a return. If there is no way to justify the cost of installing or building something. You should keep doing it manually.

Training courses - Delivery and construction
A mainstay of Babelfish has always been the imparting of knowledge. People have to deal with new systems at an alarming rate of change these days and it is imperative that your staff are supported with the knowledge they need to be productive.
Courses this year have been delivered at levels from beginner to advanced on such things as:
Microsoft Office
SQL Server (Esp; Yukon or SQL 2005)
Biztalk Server
Microsoft .NET programming
Adobe Graphic tools (Esp; Photoshop and InDesign)
Macromedia Web Development tools

Security and Reliability - Consultancy
This category covers everything from internet safety to firewalls, backups and spyware. A boom business unfortunately and also unfortunately so poorly understood. There are usually smaller but frequent projects as literally everyone on the IT consumer front requries better security.
